Register for Participant Identification Code (PIC)
To apply for EU-funded programmes like Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, or AMIF, your organization needs a Participant Identification Code (PIC). Here’s how to get one, step by step.
How to Register for a PIC (Participant Identification Code)
If you're planning to apply for EU funding, there’s one essential requirement you can’t skip: your organization must be registered in the European Commission's Funding & Tenders Portal with a Participant Identification Code (PIC).
The PIC is a unique 9-digit number that identifies your organization across all EU programmes. Without it, you can’t submit a proposal or join a consortium.
Luckily, registering for a PIC is free and straightforward, and we’ll walk you through the key steps below.
🧭 Step 1: Prepare Your Legal Information
Before registering, gather the following:
Full legal name of your organization
Legal address and country
VAT number or national ID
Type of organization (e.g., university, SME, NGO)
Legal representative details
You’ll also need documents like:
Legal entity form (provided on the portal)
Proof of legal existence (e.g., certificate of incorporation)
VAT registration or similar tax ID
🔐 Step 2: Create an EU Login
To access the Funding & Tenders Portal, you need an EU Login account:
Go to EU Login
Register with your email and create a password
Confirm your email and log in
📝 Step 3: Register Your Organisation on the Portal
Once logged in:
Go to the Funding & Tenders Portal
Click "My Organisation(s)"
Select "Register Organisation"
Fill in the required information
Upload legal documents
Submit
You’ll receive a temporary PIC immediately, and the EU services will validate it shortly after (usually within a few days).
🔄 Step 4: Keep Your PIC Updated
Once validated, your PIC stays active across programmes. But if your organization changes legal name, address, or status, make sure to update the portal.
Why You Should Register Early
Getting your PIC before applying saves time and avoids last-minute technical issues. It also allows you to be invited to consortia and access platform features like partner searches or proposal templates.
If you're unsure whether your organization already has a PIC, you can search for it here.
