How Lumen works
Three modules. One continuous intelligence layer.
Universities and Research Institutions generate vast amounts of EU funding data, and very little is available as decision-ready intelligence. Yet quality research, measurable impact, and institutional relevance increasingly depend on the ability to grow and sustain EU funding income.

Discover
Module 1
Lumen monitors open and upcoming calls across Horizon Europe, EIT, Digital Europe, Erasmus+, and other programmes. It matches calls to your institution's research profile, surfaces the most relevant opportunities, and flags deadlines before they become urgent.

Analyse
Module 2
Compare your institution's funding success rates, portfolio composition, and research output against European peers. Identify which verticals you are strong in, where you are losing to competitors, and where the whitespace is. Reports your leadership can actually use.

Execute
Module 3
Track milestones, deliverables, and reporting obligations across your entire active project portfolio in one place. Monitor consortium health, flag at-risk workpackages early, and generate compliant progress reports without starting from scratch every time.

Getting started
What is Lumen and who is for?
Lumen is a research intelligence platform built for universities, research institutions, public bodies, and large companies with active R&D functions. It covers the full EU funding lifecycle across three modules: Discover matches your institution to relevant calls before deadlines become urgent; Analytics shows how your funding performance compares to European peers; and Deliver helps you manage awarded projects, track milestones, and prepare compliant reports. If your organisation manages EU-funded research at scale, Lumen is built for you.
Which EU programmes does Lumen cover?
Lumen indexes programmes including Horizon Europe, EIT, Erasmus+, EDF, Digital Europe, LIFE, CREA and others, with coverage continuously expanded. The benchmarking layer draws on data from thousands of awarded projects across all major EU research initiatives.
How is Lumen different from CORDIS or the Funding & Tenders portal?
CORDIS and the Funding & Tenders portal are public databases, comprehensive but passive. Lumen actively matches opportunities to your research profile, benchmarks your institution against European peers, and is informed by Timbi's direct participation in funded consortia. That means the intelligence reflects real execution experience inside awarded projects and work programmes, not scraping public data.
How often is the data updated?
Awarded project data and benchmarking datasets are updated on a rolling basis as new results are published by the European Commission. Timbi's proprietary project intelligence, drawn from direct consortium participation, is updated continuously as projects progress.
What happens to our institutional data?
Your institutional data lives in a dedicated Lumen instance created exclusively for your organisation. Your research profile, project portfolio, and usage data are fully isolated, never shared with other clients, never used to train shared models without your explicit consent. Every institution gets its own environment, not a partitioned slice of a shared one. We are GDPR-compliant and can provide a full Data Processing Agreement on request.
Is Lumen compliant with GDRP and the EU AI Act?
Yes, fully. On GDPR: your data lives in a dedicated instance, no data crosses institutional boundaries, you retain full control at all times, and a Data Processing Agreement is available on request. On the EU AI Act: Lumen's AI components fall within the limited-risk category. We apply transparency as standard, you always know when AI is informing a recommendation, and every output is explainable and auditable. Formal compliance documentation is available for procurement purposes on request.
Does Lumen integrate with our existing system?
Professional and Enterprise tiers include API access for integration with university CRIS systems, EIT portal environments, and other research management platforms. Native integrations with common CRIS providers are on the roadmap. Specific integration requirements raised during onboarding are prioritised for development.
Do you specialize in any particular areas?
Absolutely. In fact, many of our most successful projects are built on close collaboration with internal R&D, data science, or innovation units. We integrate seamlessly, offering fresh perspectives while respecting existing knowledge and workflows. Our role is to complement, not replace.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Lumen offers a 30-day free trial with full access to Module 01 (Discover). No credit card required, no commitment. At the end of the trial your team can choose the tier that fits best. Trials are available to universities, research institutions, public bodies, and large companies with R&D functions.
How do I get started and how long does the onboarding take?
Start by booking a 30-minute demo — we will walk you through Lumen using your institution's actual research profile so you can see the intelligence it surfaces for you specifically. Once you subscribe, most teams are fully operational within one week: an initial configuration session, a 60-minute team walkthrough, and a check-in at the end of week two. Enterprise clients with custom integrations may require additional lead time.
